EVENT DETAILS

Pearl Institute (Formerly known as Anatolia Cultural and Dialogue Centre) organized its monthly Morning Conversation on November 17 with Dr. Paul O`Conner, a Lecturer at Chinese University of Hong Kong and writer of the book “Muslims in Hong Kong”, who gave some key points about the life of Muslims in Hong Kong and introduced his book to guests from different walks of life.

The event started with serving of special Turkish refreshments. Before his conversation Mr. O`Conner was briefed about the Cultural centre and its activities and later he talked about his researches and future plans. Just after the breakfast the presentation based conversation was started.

At the beginning of his presentation, Dr O`Conner emphasized the multi-cultural environment of Hong Kong and minorities in it. Dr O`Conner said “As British citizen, I`ve seen the tolerance toward different cultures and religions in Hong Kong quite admirable. This is unusual case in many countries”. He also said that such intolerance comes from prejudice.

Afterwards, Dr O`Conner continued his presentation telling the difficulties of living abroad as a Muslim from the perspectives of eating food. He pointed out that Muslims in Hong Kong or in China have trouble in finding out Halal food. And he mentioned that this is one of the urgent concerns waiting to be addressed.

At the end of the conversation, Dr. Paul received questions from guests.

The event ended with serving of new appetizers and Turkish drinks.
