Turkish Passport & Holocaust Victims

EVENT DETAILS

‘Since the dawn of time, people have sought to destroy each other, focussing on our differences instead of our similarities. Wars have been waged and genocides have been committed as we forget what binds us together; our shared humanity. As wars continue to rage around the world, it is vitally important we learn the lessons of the past to create a better tomorrow.

At the Pearl Institute (Formerly known as Anatolia Cultural & Dialogue Centre) and Hong Kong Holocaust & Tolerance Centre, we are screening the documentary “Turkish Passport” that tells a story of the victims of the Holocaust in Europe.

After the screening, Mr Ben Freeman, Director of Education at the Hong Kong Holocaust & Tolerance, will discuss the lessons we can learn from the Holocaust and the importance of combatting all kinds of prejudice as well as the importance of dialogue to prevent such atrocities from happening again.

At the time when there are those who look to destroy peace, it is essential we continue to dialogue about peace and friendship.’

Director of Education, Hong Kong Holocaust & Tolerance Centre

In 2012, Ben Freeman, HKHTC’s Director of Education, founded From Yesterday For Tomorrow, an International not-for-profit dedicated to working with High Schools to combat all kinds of prejudice. He has been working in informal, anti-prejudice education for over 10 years, with particular focus on the Holocaust. During his Masters degree in Political Science at the University of Glasgow, he worked for a national Jewish charity as a youth worker where he honed his skills in leadership and the creation of educational resources. He has led several trips to Poland, educating young people at the sites of the Nazi’s worst crimes. In 2015 Ben was appointed as Director of Education at the Hong Kong Holocaust & Tolerance Centre.
